    North America’s Best Ski Town?

    North America’s Best Ski Town?

Ogden Utah was recently ranked by Powder Magazine as North America’s Number 2 ski-town.

While Ogden seems to be getting all the press lately, North America’s best ski-town may be located right over the mountain from Ogden in Ogden Valley. Ogden Valley (OV or 745 for locals) is located about twelve miles east of Ogden. Located between the North and Middle Fork of the Ogden River you will find a little piece of heaven on earth. Approximately fifteen miles long and five or six miles broad at its widest point, the valley is open, with flat fields, new and old homes and breathtaking views of the mountains and hills surrounding it. Ogden Valley is home to the “greatest snow on earth” at its three local mountain resorts:

Snowbasin hosted the downhill skiing events in the 2002 Olympics.
Powder Mountain is constantly ranked at the top for quality of snow.
Wolf Mountain the perfect place to learn to ride or ski.

Another OV favorite is Wolf Creek Golf Course. It is the only Audubon Society certified golf course in Utah and is intended to feature alpine flora and northern Utah fauna, while letting golfers enjoy the true tradition of the sport.  Throw in scenic Pineview Reservoir, mountian biking, hiking, camping, boating, fishing, hunting etc and Ogden Valley is a recreational paradise.

    Ogden Valley Utah History

Ogden Valley has much history.  The first home was built in 1857 and was a log cabin.  It was owned by Erastus Bingham and Joseph Hardy, summer herdsmen.  The first community was established in 1859 when fifteen families moved in to Ogden Valley.  Washington Jenkins, a government surveyor, was hired to plot the town and described Ogden Valley as one of the most picturesque areas he had ever surveyed.  Jenkins suggested the biblical name “Eden”.  The previous name was North Fork Town. In early pioneer life Ogden Valley was similar to other communities in Utah.  Life revolved around farming, the Church, and a community that worked together and played together.  Times were hard back in the day with many unforeseen hardships but just as many enjoyments and pleasures.   Of all the areas settled in the West, Ogden Valley was one of the hardest to access.  This was due to the steep mountains and rough hills.  The canyons were either narrow or rugged, or both and challenging to travel by wagon. The higher elevation also made the area very difficult to farm due to devastating frosts and overwhelming snowstorms.
